How It Started

This is how we came to cook
the best BURGERS

Alex’s journey to cooking the best burgers began in Hobart, where he grew up attending Taroona High and completed his chef’s apprenticeship at Solo Pasta—a beloved, family-run Sandy Bay institution. Hospitality runs deep in Alex’s roots, with his family operating the iconic Green Gate Café from 1930 to 1985, a true staple of the community. In 2014, Alex became part of the Mr Burger story, returning home to open the Tasmanian side of the business. Proud to make it Tasmanian-owned and operated, he brought his passion for local flavors, dedicating Mr Burger Tasmania to serving up the best of the island’s produce.
The Mr Burger story started in 2012 when Myles Munro and Daragh Kan ate their way through San Francisco, New York, Austin, and Miami, inspired by the incredible flavors of the world’s best food trucks and burger joints.
Back in Australia, they launched Mr Burger, quickly becoming known for burgers made without compromise.
